Mind is always pleased to hear from anyone who is interested
in becoming a Trustee. The work of the Board of Trustees
is essential to the running of the organisation, and
membership is interesting, rewarding and enjoyable.
Enquiries are particularly welcomed from service users
and from those with knowledge or experience of mental
health issues or of business areas such as finance,
law or human resources.
The Board of Trustees (or executive committee) is responsible
for determining the strategy of the charity, taking
major decisions, appointing the chief executive and
other senior members of staff, and ensuring the charity
acts within the law and within its own regulations.
The Board meets quarterly for about two hours at
H&F Mind’s offices, usually at 6.00 p.m. The
meetings are informal and are always lively! Trustees
with knowledge or an interest in particular areas may
also join sub-committees of the main Board. Currently
there are sub-committees for finance, human resources
and Health & Safety. Trustees will also be invited from time to time
to participate in social, teambuilding and fundraising
events.
Though Trustees are unpaid, expenses are reimbursed
and, where appropriate, training and attendance at conferences
is paid for by H&F Mind.
Trustees are directors of Hammersmith and Fulham Association
for Mental Health, a company limited by guarantee. As
such, Trustees are not liable for the debts of the company,
or liable in contract or tort beyond the sum of £1.
However, Trustees may be personally liable if they are
responsible for the company acting outside the law,
for example by engaging in fraudulent trading.
If you have any questions or would like an informal
discussion without commitment, please contact the Company
Secretary, Jayne Davey, or the Chief Executive, Paul King, on 020 8741 0661.
Existing Trustees will also be happy to discuss what
is involved in Board membership.
We look forward to hearing from you!
