Irving Road Project

The Irving Road Project offers mixed shared supported housing to 10 residents with long term mental health issues who require a high level of support to regain some stability and to reach a level of independence and fulfilment according to their individual choice and potential. The aim is to provide a secure warm and comfortable home where each person is supported on an individual basis.

The project is a partnership between Hammersmith & Fulham Mind and Notting Hill Housing Group. Mind provides quality support in this 24hour high support residential project and Notting Hill Housing Group provide a quality housing management service for the tenants.

The service is funded through the supporting people programme and Hammersmith & Fulham Community Services Department.

We recognise that mental health issues can lead to people losing control over their lives and to the loss of confidence and daily living skills. At Irving Road an environment is created to ensure that residents learn or relearn life skills in order to maintain a tenancy and to make informed decisions in order to maximise their independence. It is recognised that most residents will not always require this level of support and will be supported in moving on to more appropriate accommodation.

When a vacancy arises, the Joint Commissioning Officer for Mental Health Accommodation is notified. Referrals will be made through the high support panel.

Residents are provided with the opportunity to enjoy the company and social interaction of shared housing along with the independence of having a well equipped single bedroom. Residents take an active part in the day to running of the house. For instance, residents agree on rota’s for shopping, cleaning and the laundry they are also encouraged to make contributions towards decisions that concern them such as recruitment, furnishings, decorations and house rules.

Support is offered on an individual basis with respect for the background, culture, chosen lifestyle and unique needs and aspirations of each tenant. Each support plan will reflect this approach and is reviewed at least every six months. Staff build sensitive, trusting relationships, work as a team and share information, knowledge and expertise to assist tenants in working towards their personal aspirations.
