Hammersmith and Fulham Mind is committed to achieving high quality in the provision of services and in all its operations. We are participating and adhering to Quality Management in Mind.
Welcome
Thank you for visiting Hammersmith & Fulham Mind’s
website. We feel very excited about meeting the new
endeavours and opportunities that these changes will
bring.
As one of the biggest and busiest Mind organisations
in London, we are reviewing all aspects of our operation
in order to ensure that our services reflect the changes
in Healthcare Provision nationwide.
Toward service user empowerment
Since our inception over 30 years ago, Hammersmith &
Fulham Mind has been committed to Service User empowerment
by campaigning for Service User involvement at all levels:
from policy formulation and decision-making through
to Service design and provision.
We’re proud to say that many of the Service User
projects we’ve initiated and managed have been
very successful and have been instrumental in influencing
the change and development of Mental Health Services
in the Borough. To see some of these projects click
on the Services link at the top of the page.
Service Users have been involved in the development
of this website. In particular, we would like to thank
members of the Consumer Forum for their paintings and
photographs and members of the User Involvement Project
for their contribution to the text and their support.
Our Mission Statement
• At Hammersmith and
Fulham Mind, we understand that a person’s mental
health is affected by social, political, cultural and
individual circumstances.
• Our key aim is to
support service users at whatever level we can, whenever
we can.
• We believe that services
should be tailored to the individual’s needs and
wants.
• We aim to help people
with mental health problems to integrate and to contribute
to society.
• Our mission is therefore
to improve the quality of service users’ lives
and help them empower themselves.
Aims
1. To facilitate equal access for individuals to a range of services in a non-discriminatory manner for individuals who deem themselves to be in need of mental health services.
2. To meet mental health needs in a way aimed at improving the quality of life, and facilitating a therapeutic outcome from the recipient’s experiences of the services.
3. In collaboration, we aim to develop, innovate and extend community mental health service provision in Hammersmith and Fulham.
Objectives
To provide a diversity of long and short term quality services.
1. To run all our services within the context of equal access, regardless of age, race, culture, gender, sexuality, class and disability.
2. To sustain a philosophy of user involvement and therapeutic work.
3. To collaborate actively within the network with users, statutory agencies, voluntary organisations and the wider community.
4. To monitor, evaluate and plan strategically the improvement in quality and development of our services.
5. To act as advocates and campaigners for clients using our services and for those whose needs are not currently met in the mental health system.
Core Values
In the planning, development and practice of our services we work to:
• Actively seek knowledge from users, professionals and the community in order that we think and act in response to the changing needs of service users.
• Respond to the expressed needs of services users who are marginalised and be committed to actively improving services
• Help people take responsibility for their lives and as a member of a community, actively participate in the wider society
• Promote mental health and facilitate the individual’s ability and potential
• Through review and evaluation be effective in changing and influencing mental health policy and practice.
• Actively combat prejudice, stigma and oppression in respect of mental health, demonstrate anti-discriminatory practice and provide positive opportunities for disadvantaged individuals and groups.
• Take responsibility to challenge institutional practice in mental health services
• Be innovative in our work.
A fundamental part of Mind's work is provided through the network of over 180 local Mind associations (LMAs) of which we are one.
Last year, LMAs worked with over 220,000 people running around 1,600 services across England and Wales. Services include supported housing, crisis helplines, drop-in centres, employment and training schemes, counselling and befriending.
Each local Mind association is an independent charity run by local people, for local people. Each is responsible for its own funding and the services it provides, but all are affiliated to Mind. This affiliation ensures that each local organisation meets Mind's quality standards of governance and service delivery, and that they work to further Mind’s mission.
Local Mind associations respond to issues within their communities in a range of ways, including:
• involvement in the planning of local mental health services
• local campaigning on mental health issues, linking with Mind's national campaign work
• activity aimed to raise awareness of, and change attitudes towards, mental health.
Local Minds vary in size and the services that they offer. To find out what is happening outside of Hammersmith and Fulham in your area, contact your local Mind association.
