The Irving Road Project

The Irving Road Project aims to provide a secure, warm, and comfortable home for ten men and women with long term mental health problems, who require a high level of support and care to regain some stability, and to reach a level of independence and fulfilment according to their individual choice and potential.

The project is a partnership between Hammersmith and Fulham Mind and Notting Hill Housing Group. MIND aims to provide quality support and care in this 24 hour high support residential project, and Notting Hill Housing Trust aims to provide a quality housing management service for the tenants.

We recognise that mental health problems can lead to people losing control over their lives, and to loss of confidence and daily living skills. Irving Road aims to provide an environment where tenants may learn or re-learn life skills, build up confidence, make informed decisions, and take a degree of control over their lives.

Irving Road offers tenants the opportunity to enjoy the company and social interaction of shared housing along with the independence of having a well equipped single bedroom. Tenants take an active part in the day to day running of their home. Tenants agree on rotas for shopping and cleaning, and contribute towards making decisions on matters that concern them, such as recruitment, furnishings and decorations, and how some parts of the budget are spent.

Irving Road offers support on an individual basis, with respect for the background, culture, chosen lifestyle, and unique needs and aspirations of each tenant. Each support plan will reflect this approach, and will be reviewed quarterly. Staff build sensitive, trusting relationships, work as a team, and share information, knowledge, and expertise to help tenants work towards their goals.

When a vacancy arises, Hammersmith and Fulham Social Services are notified. There is a High Support Placement Panel which processes referrals and agrees funding. In the event of a vacancy not being filled after eight weeks, MIND may actively seek referrals from outside the borough.
